Chart Your Own Path in Land Surveying at Prudent Engineering

From the Experts
NEW YORK STATE

By Perry Tooker, L.S., Senior Project Manager

Land surveying is one of the oldest and most respected professions in our nation’s history, practiced by many of America’s founders and essential to the infrastructure that shapes our communities today. Fun fact, in NYS a Licensed Land Surveyor is the only individual legally permitted to make property boundary line determinations and set boundary line corners.

At Prudent Engineering, land surveying remains at the core of what we do. For those who enjoy technical challenges, hands-on work, and a combination of outdoor and office work environments, surveying offers a rewarding career path with opportunities for advancement, professional growth, and the satisfaction of seeing your work make a lasting impact.

A career in land surveying can begin with little to no prior experience. Survey technicians work alongside and under the direct supervision of experienced professionals both in the field and office. Survey Technicians who are unlicensed make up the majority of the workforce in the surveying profession. Firms like Prudent actively seek capable, motivated individuals who are eager to learn.

Through on-the-job training, you’ll gain exposure to the latest technology, learn best practices, and develop the fundamental skills needed to grow your career in surveying.

While hands-on practical experience is essential, formal education helps surveyors understand the broader principals of practice and regulatory environment that governs the profession. In New York State, becoming a Licensed Land Surveyor requires a combination of education, professional experience, and successful completion of the licensure exams.
