The Court Street Dam is a critical piece of infrastructure, managing the Genesee River as it flows through the heart of Rochester, New York. As part of a broader rehabilitation effort, Prudent Engineering was engaged as subconsultant to assess whether the dam’s structural components—including Pony Truss and Deck Girder walkway bridges—could safely support upcoming construction activities, including spillway improvements and crest gate installation.

Acting as Engineer of Record for key structural elements, we evaluated the bridges spanning the dam. Some inspections were performed hands-on from a suspended cable-supported scaffold to access hard-to-reach areas beneath the bridge span. Using a combination of detailed field data and advanced structural modeling, we evaluated how these existing structures would perform under temporary and future loading conditions. Our findings were essential in shaping the design approach and stage for this multi-phase dam rehabilitation.
