This project was initiated to improve structural performance and ensure long-term reliability in a key transportation link along State Route 3101 in Chadds Ford and Pennsbury Townships. The existing six-span concrete arch bridge, which carried traffic over the Brandywine Creek and the East Penn Railroad, had reached the end of its service life. It was replaced to meet current engineering standards and better serve the traveling public.
The project limits extended from approximately 1,200 feet south of Bullock Road to about 1.1 miles north of Cossart Road, as detailed in the plans approved on September 8, 2023. In addition to the bridge replacement, the work included other associated roadway and structural improvements to support long-term infrastructure performance in the region.
