Work continues to advance on the I-81 Viaduct Project as the initiative moves from early construction activities toward the next major phase of reconstruction. As one of Central New York’s most significant transportation investments, the project remains focused on improving safety, mobility, and long-term resiliency throughout the Syracuse region.

Prudent Engineering continues to support NYSDOT through design build construction inspection and project management services, building on the progress achieved during Phase 1 while helping prepare the corridor for the transition into broader Phase 2 work.

Progress at the Southern Interchange and I-481 Corridor

Along the I-481 corridor, work at key interchanges has steadily reshaped traffic patterns and improved operational performance. Construction activities at the I-481 Exit in DeWitt and along Brighton Avenue have included roadway realignment, intersection improvements, and the installation of new infrastructure designed to enhance traffic flow and safety. These efforts represent important steps toward accommodating future traffic volumes as the corridor is reconfigured.

Prudent’s inspection staff has remained actively involved in monitoring construction activities in these areas, with a focus on quality, work zone safety, and adherence to design and environmental requirements. Daily field oversight and coordination with contractors and NYSDOT personnel have helped maintain progress while minimizing impacts to the traveling public.
